Agilent Microsorb Phenyl is a phenylpropylsilane-covered silica that has been carefully end capped. In addition to separating compounds by a reversed phase, hydrophobic interaction mode similar to C8, Microsorb Phenyl columns will also separate compounds based on differences in their orientation or number of pi electrons. This characteristic makes phenyl columns ideal for the separation of aromatic compounds, oxidized or reduced synthetic products, and natural products that differ in their number or location of double bonds. The presence or absence of even one double bond is frequently sufficient for baseline separation.
